Bring back the monsters!
I read all of the Little Monster and Professor Wormbog books as a child and I think they are so entertaining. The illustrations are wonderful and stories are fun to read. I wish Little Monster and the Trollusk books would be brought back.

Mercer Mayer's Best Work
One of my favorite books from childhood. The pages are filled with
illustrations that allow you to find something new every time. My sister and I spent hours reading and rereading this book. I love it. Great Job to the publishers for reprinting it.

Thistle Howl grows up (just a little bit).
Wow, I loved Mercer Mayer's Critter books when I was a kid! I never ever heard of Mayer's Critter's of the Night books though! I loved this one. Littlest Howl Family(Mayers version of the Addams Family)member, Thistle Howl is a little girl critter that is tired of being so small. When she wishes she could grow, her aunt, a wisened witch in the family, goes to great lengths to grant her niece's wish. Auntie Bell is hard of hearing though, and her attempts to replace Thistle's frown with a smile are hilarious!
I shared this book with 16 preschoolers at a public library during storytime. What a fantastic read! Mayer's little critters are just like the little critters we all adore in our own families today. Thistle is no exception. Her craving to be big is a familiar theme that captures the attention of every child. The illustrations are even more fantastic and fill the story with color and amusing accents. Even without the incredible pictures, the story is a must have for every child that wishes he or she could be just a little bit bigger.

Purple Pickle Juice is howlin with fun

Quantifying Marketability Discounts
Published in Hardcover by Peabody Publishing, LP (October, 1997)
Author: Z. Christopher Mercer
Average review score:

A must for business Appraisals
This book is a must for anyone doing business appraisals. It quantifies the opinion of the marketability discount and provides a defensible methodology as well as a defensible amount. Whether you use the methodology or use the theory to defend your marketability discount, you have a substanstive test other than emperical evidence for your opinion.

Finally: Sound Theory and Practical Tools!
Have you ever felt that valuators seem to pick marketability discount percentages 'out of thin air'? This book gave me the tools to go "one-up" on my competition. You'll get everything you need to develop marketability discounts that you can explain and defend. A common-sense approach fitted to the specfic facts and circumstances of the case. I've read this book twice, and I use this methodology for every marketability discount that I value. You'll also learn how to defend your discount in light of the most important Tax Court cases on the subject. And...an inexpensive template available from the author will save you tons of time and money!

Recalling Education
Published in Hardcover by Intercollegiate Studies Inst (May, 2001)
Author: Hugh Mercer Curtler
Average review score:

What is the purpose of education?
Before I write this review, I want to make it clear that I know the author and was a philosophy student of his. This makes me biased in this review and I wanted that to be clear to all the readers. Having said that, this book is an excellent look at what education is and what education is not. It examines how we have come to look at education as job-training, which it clearly is not. It examines how we can change education for the better, drawing on Classical models as well as more modern ideas of education. Students and educators should take a close look at this book, it can creating stirring debate about education's future.

A Contemporary Classic
Curtler's Recalling Education is a must read for all students of education at all levels. I seldom find books with such clarity and insight on issues of a contemporary nature as this one. The author provides a context within which to view complex issues with ease. The treatment of the Liberal Arts in Chapter VI is the best that I have read in years. It depicts the role that the Classic Liberal Arts play in freeing individuals from the constraints of ignorance and the passions of emotionalism. Curtler provids a lucid treatment of the Liberal Arts as necessary for the preservation of liberty, especially in a society that values freedoms yet ignores the incumbent responsibilities that liberty predicates. Chapter VII, Can Virtue Be Taught, is a must for every teacher in our schooling system as well as every parent. Not only does he clarify the purpose of the virtues in a participatory democracy but he also illustrates the distinction between teaching the virtues as an intellectual endeavor of the schools versus establishing them as habituated behaviors through reinforcement in early childhood. Finally, the virtues are established as the basis of character and self-discipline. Drawing on the Greek philosophers, Dr. Curtler presents these timeless treasures in terms both comprehensible and provocative. I list this text as strongly recommended for all of my graduate students in teacher education as there is no equal on the contemporary market. If you like Mortimer Adler, you will love Hugh Curtler.

great read-aloud
This book is recommended by Jim Trelease in his read-aloud handbook. I used to check it out of the library every year to read to my class of second graders. They loved it!

Streeters

AWESOME!
The Jerry Seinfeld of Canada!

Well worth the read!
This book is a reprise of Mr. Mercer's "rants" on "This Hour Has 22 Minutes". For those of you who lack the good fortune to have access to the show, I highly recommend this book. For those of you who are fans of the show, this book should be added to your collection.

"Streeters" is a must-have for anyone with an appreciation of political humour, be it Canadian or otherwise. A mandatory item for anyone seeking to understand the Canadian psyche, this book gets the point across via a unique combination of keen political insight and an extraordinary command of common Canadian prose.

Stop reading and buy the ... thing!

My Twenty-six Month Old Girl Loves This Book!!
This Little Critters book is one any child can relate to. Children always empathize when their mom is sick. In this book, the entire Critter household wants to help out mom, who is sick in bed. My daughter asked us to read this book to her at least fifteen times in the first three days after I brought the book home. This is one of the best books in the series! Also, I like the Little Golden Books hardcover binding.

Taking care of mom
This one is cute in the way it shows how the little critters try and help their poor mother, but really make more of a mess. Which any mom knows is exactley what happens when you really get sick.

This Is My Family

Authors: Mercer Mayer and Crampton

LIttle Critter Knows What a Family is All About
No matter what form their family may take, children are sure to find something to relate to in Little Critter`s introduction of his family. While Dad and Mom are very like their own, my boys take pleasure in seeing themselves in Little Critter, his sister, and baby brother (over and over again.) Most important, however, is the message that comes through: We may fight, but we also have fun together. Every member is special. And, no matter what our differences may be, we all love each other. Whatever the structure may be, LOVE is what a family is all about.

OUR FAMILY LOVES THE LITTLE CRITTER FAMILY
My two year old son and I read this story VERY often! He loves this and all of the Little Critter books that we have. I appreciate the "traditional" family being recognized. As a stay-at-home-mom, I enjoy the fact that this book doesn't have Little Critter's mom working outside the home. I know that in today's society there are many different types of families, but this book fits our family very well. My son and I highly recommend this book!

What a Bad Dream

fulfill my son's imagination
I read this book to my 3-yr-old son. He is both surprised and excited about the idea that little critter can do whatever he wants after drinking the magic potion. My son can imagine that he is little critter who can eat as much ice creams and chocalateas he wants and stay up as late as he wants. At the end little critter still wants his mom and dad to tug him in and hug him. So is my son. My son can relate to this book. No wonder he loves it.

The best
This is the best book for little kids.it lets our imagination run wild.It is also the wildest.
